        1. How much is the Basic/Non-declinable Fee? 

This is an overall fee the funeral home charges which you must pay regardless of the funeral arrangement. This fee is paid in addition to any goods and services you choose. The basic fee often covers the funeral director, staff and overheads.

        2. How much are Cash Advances? 

The cash advance fees are charged by the funeral home for goods and services provided by outside vendors on your behalf. These can range from catering and flowers to pallbearers and body transport. Specifics of these fees must be provided in writing.

        3. Does the casket have to be purchased in-house? 

It is becoming more common to buy caskets from third parties. Some options are online from Amazon, Walmart and even rental companies. Funeral homes must accept shipment from third parties.

        4. What media technology is available? 

Many are opting to stream funeral services online for family and friends who were not able to attend. You may also want to play music, videos or picture slideshows while celebrating the life of your loved one. Find out whether these options are available.

        5. Is embalming required? 

Your state law may not require embalming, refrigeration may suffice. However embalming based on the time of your viewing, further transporting of the body etc.
