Self Care is a necessity

Self Care is a priority

Self Care is essential to your well-being

You can experience grief in various ways. Grief can affect you either physically, psychologically, emotionally and/or spiritually at different times during your grief journey. Grief is an individual experience and no two grief journeys are the same. But whatever your grief journey and at whatever stage; SELF CARE IS ESSENTIAL.

Here are 12 Self Care Tips to help you deal with your Grief:

1. Give yourself grace

There is no right or wrong way to grieve. Allow yourself to feel, accept and work through your emotions. Be kind to yourself.

2. See a doctor.

As your body experiences stress you may be more susceptible to falling ill so a quick check-up might do you good.

3. Eat & hydrate

Keep your body healthy. Eat nourishing meals and drink lots of water. If you’re experiencing a loss of appetite look into meal replacement shakes or supplements  and don’t forget to take your vitamins.

4. Sleep

Be sure to rest your body sufficiently.

5. Breathe Mindfully

When you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed, focus on your breathing. Mindful breathing can help with feelings of stress and anxiety.

6. Move and Stretch

Get your body moving. Exercise and/or stretching can help with feelings of anxiety and overall tension.

7. Express & Create

Use creative ways to express how you feel. Drawing, painting, decorating, building something, poetry, song writing, crafting are a few of my favorites.

8. Focused Activities

Do something that requires your full attention such as jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles or sudoku.

9. Connect with others

People want to help and feel useful … let them. Accept help.

10. Busy Projects

Distract yourself for some time with a project such as spring cleaning or assembling that piece of furniture.

11. Gratitude

Practice focusing on the good as often as you can. Make a point to write down what you are grateful for daily.

12. Indulge in calming activities

Try to calm your mind and body. Learn grounding techniques. Appreciate the nature around you. Read, light candles, take a long bath, visit the spa or meditate.
