- There is a tremendous need for organ and body donations in America. Organ and whole body donations save lives immediately through use of someone in need and/or in the future through scientific research and practice by medical students and professionals.
- To determine if someone is an organ donor check their driver’s license or advanced directives. In the absence of specific instructions the executor might decide.
- Certain religions prohibit organ and body donations. For guidance you may contact the clergy and other religious authorities.
- It is against the law to personally transport remains. If a death occurs in the home you may call the mortuary and specify that transportation for a donor is needed since this is often time sensitive.
- Organ and body donations should have no cost to the donor’s family. The facility or program will typically provide guidelines on the process and cremation thereafter is typically free.
- If you are not a fit candidate for organ donation chances are higher that you might be a good fit for whole body donations.
